"Soul-less" North Shore Venue Chosen for Auckland International

Debbie Downing, Sports Director for Auckland Judo writes:
Just a quick update on the 2009 Auckland International Open. This year the event has moved back to the North Shore and will be held at the North Shore Events Centre (where the Breakers usually play their home games). For those of you who have been to competitions at AUT, it is less than 5 minutes drive from there.
We have a number of overseas entries confirmed already. They are: Indonesia (12 players both Men and Women, Junior and Senior), Philippines, New Caledonia and several Australian clubs. There have also been expressions of interest from Singapore, Macau, India and Hong Kong. We are also hopeful Tahiti will return with their large contingent of Under 14s.
There are currently cheap flights to Auckland that weekend from most centres, so suggest you book early and take advantage of these savings.
I have been asked about likely finish times on both days. As you are no doubt aware this depends entirely on number of entries and very hard to predict at this stage. We will again be running 3 competition mats and expect little if any down time. I don’t see Saturday finishing until at LEAST 7pm and Sunday 5pm so bear that in mind when booking flights.
We will not be setting up the venue until 10pm on the Friday night due to a basketball game being held however I will ensure scales are there from 8pm that night for a trial weigh in.
Any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
Looking forward to a good turnout of Kiwis at this event!
