Uni Judo’s own 63kg heavy weight Jono Hutchison recently celebrated a MMA victory against two Wrestlers at the local Armageddon festival in Auckland. In the final analysis his opponents, in the form of two budgie-smuggler clad professional wrestlers, had little offer. Jono remained un-phased throughout the bout and saw no need to let loose his impressive flying arm-bar. Rather he secured a first round victory by way of scripted technicality, one failed o-goshi, and a series of epic break falls. Nice work! The video is available here>>
Well done to all those that made weight and fought at the Nationals during Labour weekend - it was your first Nationals and all fought very well - a great learning experience for all. Special mention to Jordan for beating a NZ rep in one of his fights.
Thank you to all those that travelled down to support our team, greatly appreciated!
To those that didn't make weight..... soup is the heaviest thing known to man (also having 2 lunches at work doesn't help either!)
If you are fighting in the under 73kg division at the Nationals and weigh 72.99kg the night before, only have a very light dinner.... A bowl of soup is NOT a light dinner!!!
Friday, October 16 1:55 pm PT: Wanderlei Silva announced he will be returning to the Octagon Feb. 21 in Sydney, Australia, in a video he released Friday. Silva is slated to face Yoshihiro Akiyama in what is expected to be his first bout in the UFC 185-pound division.
“I am so happy because it’s the first event there,” said the former Pride 205-pound champ.
“This is a great honor for me because I (fought) in the main event in Cologne, in Germany, in the first event there and now I’m going to fight in the first event in Australia.”
Silva (32-10-1) returns to the cage for the first time since suffering a unanimous decision loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 99 in June. The 33-year-old Silva has dropped five of his last six fights and amassed a 1-3 record since signing with the UFC in 2007.
He said he is looking forward to fighting for the Australian fans that have not yet had a chance to witness a UFC event first hand.
“I am so happy to give a good fight for a new place that has never had a UFC before,” said Silva. “It is a great honor for me and I will start training. I’m training very hard. My opponent is very tough.”
Akiyama, 32, made his UFC debut a successful one with a split-decision win over a tough Alan Belcher at UFC 100 in July. With a sterling 13-1 record, Akiyama holds notable wins over Melvin Manhoef and Dennis Kang and suffered his only defeat to K-1 kickboxer Jerome LeBanner in just his second fight.
This weekend should be a good time for everyone to organise how they're getting there, and accommodations, as always if there are any questions, then Sensi Rick would be the best person to ask.
Best of luck to all those who are going to represent our club at the competition.
*note I know it's old, but I have been sort of busy lately*
TOKYO —
Three-time Olympic champion Tadahiro Nomura was defeated in the first round at a World Cup meet in Baku, Azerbaijan on Saturday.
Returning to the mat in the men’s 60-kilogram class after an injury layoff of nearly one and a half years, Nomura lost to Vugar Shirinli of Azerbaijan. The 34-year-old Nomura underwent reconstructive surgery on ligaments and had part of a meniscus in his right knee removed in April 2008 before declaring his intention to continue his judo career in May with an eye on competing in the 2012 London Olympics.

London-based toon shop 12foot6, founded by Dave Anderson and Tom Mortimer, is gearing up to bring more howling entertainment to fans who were won over by their viral Virgin Mobile campaign, Dog Judo, by hosting a new series of shorts online at www.dogjudo.com. The series effortlessly blends British humor with 2D animation and stars two dogs attempting to get on with their Judo training: Roy, the serious-minded straight man type, and Rexley, who is constantly hijacking their training sessions with ridiculous, very non-Judo tactics and schemes. The use of real photographs for the characters' fuzzy mugs adds another level of absurdity (as does Roy's character blog on the site!) to the under-a-minute antics. DogJudo.com officially launched Oct. 1, with episodes broadcasting biweekly starting Oct. 29. Anderson kindly spared a moment out of 12foot6's hectic schedule of commercial, TV and canine capers to tell us more about this ad campaign turned online phenom. ..... to read the complete article click Here
