Sensei Rick Puts Money Where His Mouth is and Awards Two More Judo Scholarships

Sensei Rick Littlewood, in association with the University Judo club, announced today that Terry Lung and Tim Brew are to be awarded B-Level Judo scholarships that will allow them to train in Kyoto, Japan later this year.

The B-level Judo scholarships will afford Brew, who hails from the Gisborne club, and Lung, from University, free accommodation and free Judo training in Kyoto Japan (everything that the A-level scholarships offer less the living allowance).

As a result of Sensei Rick’s scholarships four young New Zealanders will now be travelling to study and play Judo in Japan. Two are from University. Two are from other clubs. The award of a scholarship of this kind by a local Judo club to members other than its own appears to be unprecedented in the history of New Zealand Judo.

Sensei Rick was rather low-key when asked to comment on what may be this national first. “ I guess you could say that I put my money where my mouth is” he said.

  1. Sensei Rick,
On behalf of the Gisborne Judo Club, we would like to thank you for your visit to our club and interesting interview form, letting Tim's coaches have their 2cents worth in. This is a great opportunity for one of our members to travel to Japan, and train his butt off.
Gisborne Gold, "a deals a deal" leave it with me,
    regards,
    Kiki
