This Week at the Club

Beer of the month—mat-side—is Gisborne Gold (a crisp and dry-style 4% lager). Gizzy gold is produced at a micro-brewery in Gisborne in the time-honoured way, with no short-cuts . . . real beer. Kong gives this beer 3 1/2 stars our of a possible 5. Quite good!

This week will be Luke’s last session(s) at the club. He is moving down to Dunedin to start University at Otago. It looks as if Luke will be in on Wednesday. It would be great to come along, pay respects by way of a friendly strangle, and bid him farewell for what could be some time.

See the Saturday crowd demonstrate Tim Slyfield’s super-fast arm-bar and superior kumi kata with devastating effect all this week. If you weren’t at Judo on the weekend you were missing out. Remember Judo runs from 12-2pm on Saturdays.

We received this photo of Yoshio, getting his cultural tourism on over the weekend. [Either that or Sensei Rick had sent him as emissary to make peace. Read the background here>>] PS: Is there such a thing as a Japanese who is not photogenic?
